The Water Preview
Thursday, November 29, 2012nail a college drop out
Better late than never. But never late is better. Right? Never thought I'd see the day where I would make reference to a song by Jimmy from Degrassi, but the quote seemed rather tailored to the occasion because this post is being typed at 2:30am on a Thursday.
Now let's get back into Art Dealer Chic Week! As the title suggests, day three of Art Dealer Chic Week was influenced by the Kaleidoscope Dream: The Water Preview album cover.

She's Art Dealer Chic
Tuesday, November 27, 2012nail a college drop out
Yes my lovely readers. You guessed it. Art Dealer Chic Week continues with imagery from the video for Adorn.
How can anyone not instantly love this song?
If you're anything like me, the first thing you wondered when you saw the video was, "why the hell does this chick have stockings on her head?" No? Just me? Alrighty then, let's move on and ignore my comment about the lingerie as head gear.
I wanted to convey the elusiveness of the smoke, the red and blue lighting, and a loose interpretation of a really random video still I can no longer find. (Lesson learned on how important bookmarks are.)
What do you think of my abstract nail rendition of Adorn?

Quick side note: If you plan on buying his album, Kaleidoscope Dream, you should consider buying some condoms. Yes, it is that serious.

Kaleidoscope Dream (Art Dealer Chic Week)
Monday, November 26, 2012nail a college drop out
A few days ago I made an announcement via Facebook that "I'm really really really really excited about a series I'm starting Monday." Well its Monday so here's this week's theme, Art Dealer Chic!
The goal? Simple. Five posts, Monday through Friday, which are all inspired by/conceived to the music and/or imagery of Mr. Art Dealer Chic himself, Miguel.
All introductions (and fawning over a man I'll never meet) aside, the idea for the first post of Art Dealer Chic Week kind of just came to me while listening to Kaleidoscope Dream on my way to work.

Holiday Joy & A Consistent Lack of Diversity
Tuesday, November 20, 2012nail a college drop out
Today I called in sick at work. Am I sick? Not exactly, but I
was far too exhausted from cranking out a twelve hour shift yesterday
to crawl out of bed for another twelve hour round of servicing
mortgages. Pretty sure you're not supposed to tell anyone when you are
playing hooky. But um.... YOLO?
What does this have to do with anything?? Nothing really. But I finally have the time to paint my nails and write about them.
Some time passes and all the sudden I'm asked if I want to receive samples. I found this incredibly strange because the aforementioned email was sent from my personal email account and not the email account I use for my blogging duties (blogging duties? Is that even a term? I guess it is now). Yet I was asked via my blog's email if I wanted samples.
It could be incredibly ironic timing or an attempt at appeasement.
Either way these were provided for the review.
Now that you've officially been caught up I'll give you a short run down on these two holiday themed lacquers.
Blue Bells Sing
A blue foil that's very well pigmented and opaque in two coats.
I was surprised at how much I actually liked it.
Cranberry Splash
A red shimmer polish that's opaque in two coats.
Not my ideal shade, but then again I've never been a huge fan of red nail polish. It's a pretty standard red shimmer you'd expect to see this time of year.
Well kids there you have it. A review, some nail art, and a lack of representation.
Here's to hoping a change will come.

Finally, a semi successful water marble! If only I could replicate these results every time.
So, your inquisitive nature wants to know what I used.
China Glaze Blue Bells Sings & Cranberry Splash
Why on earth do I have these? I'm not entirely too sure myself. So allow me to backtrack for a moment.
Every so often you'll see me mention the consistent lack of diversity in
China Glaze's packaging. While I realize just talking about it here
hasn't gotten enough attention to make any real changes, I decided to
send an email.
I find it completely ironic that your tag line is "Live In Color," yet none of the packaging, campaign ads, retail displays have any women of color. No, I don't just mean black women, but women of color as a whole. Sure there was the We Adorn You Fall/Winter 2006 Collection, but seriously one single collection from six years ago isn't enough! I just find it so hard to believe that every single time a new collection comes out; it is always the same type of woman. In all of the years and marketing no one ever thought, "Hey, you know what? Maybe more than just white women buy our products!" I did love China Glaze nail polish and I did think the colors were great. Now I'm just sorely disappointed with your brand, marketing, and last but not least, your tagline. I genuinely hope this isn't falling on deaf ears for I have bought my last bottle of China Glaze Nail Lacquer.
Sincerely,
A woman of color.

When Good Manis Go Bad: Gold & Green Water Marble Edition
Thursday, November 15, 2012nail a college drop out
Last week I had the idea that I was going to paint my nails gold and lime green. Only to have the same thought interrupted by, "Hey! I'm going to do a water marble!" Time came and went and finally I said to myself, "You know Briana, there's no time like the present and you should really knock this off of your designs to try list." Little did I think it would become quite the nail fail.
...And now I've brought you up to speed lets move on to the manicure mishap in question.
*photo taken after three days of wear*
I know some of you might be thinking there isn't anything wrong with it. And I guess, to some extent, there isn't. I just really really really really really really suck at making uniform water marbles.
Oh perchance to dream of channeling my inner My Simple Little Pleasures successfully.
Anyway here's the polishes I used to make this edition of When Good Manis Go Bad possible.
Orly Sashay My Way
Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Golden-I
Color Club Feelin Groovy
QRS Nail 24KT

Saturday Night Swatch Spam
Saturday, November 10, 2012nail a college drop out
What on earth should a young woman like myself be doing on a Saturday night? Well, whatever that is, I'm definitely sitting in front of my desktop typing this post.
try and get as many Icing converts as I can show you all some really pretty swatches.
Anyway, let's try and get back to the topic at hand. NAIL POLISH!
Most of you may know that I love absolutely Icing nail polish and I figured I should
L-R Glitteratti, Epic Winning, Sunlit, Frost Yourself, and Glamorous
Rockstar From Mars, Party Hardy, Sipping On Bubbly ,Just Shimmer, and Absinthe
Hot Date, Orchid, Evergreen, and Birthday Beyotch
After Party, Red-y or Not, Mint 2 Be, and So Hot Right Now
While these guys aren't new releases from one of my favorite brands, they are nice to look at. Right?
By the way; these swatches don't even represent a fourth of my Icing collection.
See any favorites in the bunch?

Still On The Crack Eh?: Dazzle Dry Black Lace Texture
Wednesday, November 07, 2012nail a college drop out
Let's just assume you're still wearing crackle polish. Now, let's assume you were one of many lacquer heads who flocked to malls, salons, and drug stores alike to buy it. Okay. One more assumption, I promise (maybe). Now let's assume you seldom ever wear it. Now we're on the same page I've decided I'm going to make the attempt to start a sporadic segment called—what else—"Still on the Crack Eh?"
Do you think crack is whack? Chime in.
Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.
The first installment is Dazzle Dry Red Rapid and Black Lace Texture
Dazzle Dry Black Lace Texture is your typical black crackle polish.
Application was pretty favorable. One easy coat is all it took for this guy. But allow me to say that I was most impressed with Rapid Red. I don't even like red nail polish
—if you saw my stash you'd think I was a liar. It was opaque in two coats and there was no staining. If you're looking for an absolute must have go to red nail polish, this one gets my seal of approval.
Dazzle Dry lacquers retail for $9 and are available at DazzleDry.com
