Press Sample After taking off last Wednesday's nail art, I decided to try something a lot less complex. Why? Only because I didn't the time available to create another extremely detailed manicure. If I've learned anything over time. It's that I should never, under any circumstance, paint my nails while under fatigue. Trust me. It. Never. Ends. Well.
Anyway, I picked out two Sation colors and some camouflage studs I bought on eBay for today's simple nail art installment.
Of Corset I'll Call You & Plenty Of Frogs
I started with a three coats of Of Corset I'll Call You. I assumed it was a creme, but it is definitely a crelly? creme/jelly hybrid. Next I took a striper brush and painted half of my nail in Plenty Of Frogs. And lastly, I placed some camo studs I bought on eBay to form a rhombus shape.
Believe it or not the sort of wonky looking wrinkles are only visible in photos this close. I can this is what happens when you use lacquer in a really really hot room.
These Sation colors are available for $5 on store.misspn.com, although I
have heard of these guys being found at Marshall's for around $3 each.
Have an idea for a design I should try next? Leave in the comments, tweet me, write on my wall, or email me at nailacollegedropout@aol.com.

Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Fall 2013
Monday, August 26, 2013nail a college drop outNothing To Disclose
Friday afternoon I saw a post on Nouveau Cheap about the new Limited Edition Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Fall 2013 Collection and my little polish heart went into immediate hoard mode. I contemplated going to Walgreen's after work to scoop them up, but alas, my body was far more tired than I though, and I fell asleep.
Saturday rolls around, I get up, shower, shave my legs,--possible TMI? I've been avoiding wearing dresses all week b/c I've been too lazy to do so prior to Saturday. Definite TMI--got dressed, and headed over to the hunting grounds.I walk in, removing my $5 sunglasses from my eyes and stroll around to the cosmetics department. AND BINGO! The entire display was untouched! You know, until I got there.
Fast forward to Monday morning and I've got swatches!
I doing these swatches a little differently because I'm still rocking the hell out of my last mani. (Seen here.)
I broke out my handy dandy swatch sticks so let's get started with Frazzle Dazzle. Shall we?
Frazzle Dazzle is multi-sized copper hex pieces and black bar glitter suspended in a clear base.
Glitter Gun- Multi size gold hexagon and multi-size white bar glitter.
Green Rocket - Multi-size emerald green and white bar/hexagon glitter.
Sea-ly String - A bit more complex the the other X-treme Wears I picked up. This guy is multi-size black, blue, and silver haxagon glitter, along with black bar glitter suspended in a translucent blue base.
Spark in the Dark - Multi size black and gold glitter dispersed throughout a clear base.
The entire fall collection has ten lacquers but I only picked up seven. Why? Because one looked like an exact dupe of China Glaze Glitz N Pieces and the other two look like something a four year old would throw together if left to their own devices.
All seven of the shades I picked up are two coats without top coat and require a minute amount of maneuvering on the nail bed--in this case, swatch stick--for full coverage.
By the way I got these on sale for $1.99/bottle! I don't know if these are still on sale, but I've never paid full retail for X-treme Wears at Walgreens.
Looking to stock up on these LE lacquers? May the odds ever be in your favor.
Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.

When Nails Imitate Art: SaladeenArt
Wednesday, August 21, 2013nail a college drop outNothing To Disclose I've been asked on more than a few occasions where the inspiration comes from for my nail art, and my answer is always, "everywhere." In this particular case the source is my favorite painting by Raheem Johnson. Don't know who he is? He goes by SaladeenArt on Instagram and I've never seen a piece of his I didn't like.
Here's the reference piece...
"Love is Sometimes Bigger than Sight"
In no particular order the lacquer names are:
China Glaze With Love
China Glaze Lemon Fizz
China Glaze Flyin' High
Sation Plenty Of Frogs
Sinful Color Endless Blue
Wet n Wild Wild Shine Black Creme
LeChat Dare To Wear Private Escort
OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls
Sephora by OPI Seriously, It's a Naan-Issue
Sephora by OPI Hi Def
Nail art Pens from Urban Outfitters
And one last photo! Awkward hand pose to show you my thumb.
Fun fact: I was an art major in college. Although I think I may have disclosed that here before.

Press Sample Oh Monday night. Finally I get to return to my bed if only for awhile! You know, the place I spent a significant portion of my weekend? Anyway, Sunday night I was messing around with some ideas for nail art and here's what I came up with.
Last weekend I hit up a few of my favorite spots to acquire some booty--nail varnish of course, and not actual buttocks. I then left said hook up spot with Zoya Neely (for $2.99 btw). Claire's Culture Shock and Claire's Graffiti.
Fast forward to last night I decided to test out some Orly Instant Artist Water Based Paints, and well, here we are!
For this mani I started with a base of Zoya Neely, made a rough gradient with the two Claire's lacquers, and lasted tested out my line work with the two Orly Instant Artist paints.

As the title may suggest, today's nail art had every intention to become a bomb ass set of galaxy nails. How does that saying go? Something or other about good intentions right? Oh well. I ended up loving these easy, yet admittedly very strange, nails anyway!
I started by painting a base color of China Glaze Creative Fantasy. Soon after that dried and I had all of the other lacquers I wanted to use laid out I nixed the original design I had in mind.
So how did I got this end result? I randomly sponged Essie DJ Play That Song, China Glaze Grape Pop, China Glaze Manhunt, China Glaze Calypso Blue, Barielle Smarty Pants, Sation Strumming My Nails, and China Glaze Creative Fantasy. I know it sounds like a lot of work but I promise you that it was quick and painless.
And finally I applied a few gold stars from Born Pretty and sealed it with a few layers of top coat.
You can get 1,000 of these metal gold star shaped decals for $8.80 on BornPrettyStore.com. By the way, the promo code NCL91 will get you 10% off your entire purchase at checkout!
The addition of stars kinda brings the cosmic theme together right?

Wednesday, August 07, 2013nail a college drop outNothing To Disclose You ever find yourself just looking through your polish (read: making sure all of your pretties are safe and sound and nothing happened to them while no one was home for eight to ten hours) and just finding the perfect combination of colors? Well folks, that just happened for me.
Last night on Instagram, I shared this photo.
And the rest is what brings us here now.
I absolutely love the outcome of these nails. The slight unevenness of the black and white checker board and how it smudged a bit after I applied top coat seemed to fit in with the water marble turned out.
I should probably mention what colors I used for this manicure eh? Here we go...
China Glaze Happy Go Lucky
Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Sun Kissed
LCN Hot Chili
LCN Pink Pepper
China Glaze Grape Pop
Barielle Surf's Up
China Glaze Four Leaf Clover
Dare To Wear Flawless White
Wet n Wild Wild Shine Black Creme
Yes. I did belt out "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" after I finished this. Not that you asked or anything, but I felt that I should I disclose that.

Press Sample After a week of relative inactivity I finally have the time to sit down, push around some nail paint, and
I've been itching to try some extremely labor intensive nail art, but I figure I should start off with something simple and awesome. Something a long the lines of stripes!
I used the LCN Shades of Desert Summer 2013 Collection and really loved the outcome. Being new to the LCN brand I really didn't know what to expect in terms of color opacity and formula, but I was very pleased with both! It didn't hurt that all four of these are cremes. Y'all know how much I love a good creme finish lacquer.
Fiery Cumin - an exotic, spicy orange
Blue Oasis - a cool, calming turquoise
Pink Pepper - a jewel-toned magenta
Hot Chili - a bold passionate red
All LCN polishes are 3-Free (formulated without DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde and Cetyl Alcohol).
Each lacquer retails for $7.50 and the Shades of Desert Box Set retails for $24.99 on LCNBoutique.com.
Looking for the hook-up? use code 5AY3QD at checkout for free shipping until August 15th!
