Nail Art Society Gold Foil Kit
Monday, September 30, 2013nail a college drop outWith the first look, I wanted to try a gradient using Jessica Cinnamon Kiss. After I successfully did a single color gradient, I felt this was a pretty good place to add some gold foil to my thumb, index, and middle fingers.
For the second look, I was inspired by the royal themed decals that are also in the Gold Foil Kit and paired two crowns with Purple half moons. Why purple? Well For starters it is my second favorite color and finishers (not sure if finishers is a word) purple is associated with royalty.

Okay. So it's officially fall. But it is never too cold for ice cream or neon nail polish so why not have your cake AND eat it too?
I wanted something simple and sweet. Get it? Sweet because I has ice cream on my nails. Okay, so my jokes are cheesy, but they'll never be as bad as my 11th grade social studies teacher. More on Mr Kelly later on.
I started with a base of Icing Candy Shop (swatch here) and paint some drips using a white nail art pen I bought in a set of five from urban Outfitters.

Fun fact: Mr. Nail A College Drop Out calls UO a hipster thrift store.
Once that was dry I apply a layer of top coat and a dab of nail glue to secure my 3D ice cream pieces.
These pieces are a lot bigger than what I assumed they would be. But hey, y'all know when it comes to nails I like everything ostentatious.
They retail for $2.55 on BornPrettyStore.com and are available in twelve patterns.
Don't forget to use promo code NCL91 at checkout for 10% off your entire purchase!

NYC New York Color
Water Marble
New York Color Water Marble
Friday, September 20, 2013nail a college drop outPress Sample As some of you may know, me and water marbles have a hit or miss relationship. Sometimes they come out exactly the way I plan and others, well, just don't. While my intent for this mani was complete uniformity I ended up with a look that is, without a doubt, abstract.
I used four New York Colors for this mani. Three from the Long Wearing Nail Enamel line and one from the In a New York Color Minute Quick Dry line.
L-R Scandalous Blue Glitter, Cashmere Creme, and Empire State Blue
Spring Street
At first I thought Spring Street wouldn't be very fitting since the other three lacquers are shades of blue, but then I thought to myself, "Hey why not throw some contrast in there?"
NYC Long Wearing Nail Enamel retails for .99¢ and NYC In a New York Color Minute Quick Dry retails for $1.99 at drugstores nationwide.
Fun fact: I've been using this brand for a decade. Don't believe me? Click here.
When it comes to water marbles; you win some, you lose some. Just decide what your going to do with 'em.

L-R In Good Taste, I Got a Headache, No Not Now, Pillow Talk, Very Bare
In Good Taste, I Got a Headache, and No Not Now were all two coats and
had a favorable formula. While Pillow Talk and Very Bare were pretty
sheer yet build-able. Very Bare being well, very bare required a bit
more effort and a layer a top coat to even it out.
Pinky to thumb: In Good Taste, I Got a Headache, No Not Now, Pillow Talk, Very Bare
Is it just me or does the model on this package kind of resemble Nazanin Mandi?

Chevron, Checker, & Stripes Unite!
Thursday, September 12, 2013nail a college drop outPress Sample Okay, so this post wasn't technically posted on Wednesday but it's only 1am and I haven't been to bed yet. That has to count for something right? #LateNightBlogSesh!!
Anyway, all procrastinating aside, I recently got some interesting nail art stickers from Sticky Nails on Etsy and felt like nail artin' it up in this bitch. Here's the end result!
And if you have long nails like me these will fit with no problem!
Iona advises that you let your base color dry completely before you place the stickers on your nail bed. To speed up the process I used Dazzle Dry Top Coat over my white base.
Want some product porn? Of course you do!
butter LONDON Cotton Buds (white base color), Wet N Wild Wild Shine Black Creme (chevrons), Dare To Wear Violetta (stripes and checker print), Illamasqua Nomad (stripes and checker print).
Chevron stencils nail stickers are $9.50 on Sticky Nails Etsy Shop and there's free shipping anywhere in the US.
I think this is my first chevron mani. I like. Do you?

bL Rock Your Colour Nail Art
Monday, September 09, 2013nail a college drop outPress SampleRecently butter LONDON came out with a pretty large cosmetic line complete with mascara, eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, and of course, nail polish!
The Rock Your Colour Collection consists of six lacquers, but these nails used only three.
L-R Pistol Pink, Indigo Punk, Inky Six
I've been super tired lately so I went the simple route and landed at a tape mani. The base is Pistol Pink. Next I laid down some masking tape for triangles and made a gradient using only the brushes from the bottles of Indigo Punk and Inky Six.
The lacquers in the butter LONDON Rock Your Colour collection retail for $15 each on butterLONDON.com.
I've got a few really awesome ideas for nail art this week so hang in there with me. Pretty please? With sugar on top?

Things Every Polish Whore Should Have
Things Every Polish Whore Should Have: Swatch Sticks + Label Makers
Wednesday, September 04, 2013nail a college drop outNothing To Disclose Last week I swatched the new limited edition Sally Hansen X-treme Wear collection for Fall '13 on swatch sticks and then it happened. Rhonda from Nails Beautiqued asked me where I got my swatch sticks that say Sally Hansen on them. So why not answer her query? I'm sure plenty of you were wondering the same thing right? Right.
I bought my swatch sticks on eBay for less than $3 per 50 piece pack (with free shipping by the way) so if you have a pretty large collection like myself, you'll easily spend $50 or more if you want to swatch every single shade you own.
I recommend this as a weekend project. Sit around, have a snack, turn on any ridiculous Lifetime movie of your choice, and boom! There you go!
Most sellers have these available in two color options, "natural color" and clear. From what you can see here, I chose clear.
How did I get the names on each stick? A handy dandy label maker!
A few things I forgot to mention:
1. These aren't called swatch sticks on eBay. In fact, if you try to search "swatch sticks" you'll likely get quite a few hockey gear results.2. Search "nail display fan board."
3. The swatch sticks come with a long metal screw and a nut to put on the end. If you want something a little less hardware store you can pick up a pack of book rings at Office Max like I did.
4. Because you read through this entire post here are some quick swatches of the new Splatter Effect Collection by Claire's
This isn't the only thing I keep in my polish arsenal. Follow me on Instagram (@DropOut_Nails) and/or search the tag #ThingsEveryPolishWhoreShouldHave
Hows that for informative?
