Favorite Lacquers in 2013
Monday, December 30, 2013nail a college drop outPurchased by Me | Press Sample 2013 is almost over and boy did I acquire a lot of nail polish. So, in no particular order, let's look back at my new favorites from the last twelve months!
Dare To Wear Violetta
This gem is one sixth of LeChat Dare To Wear's Floral Fantasy Collection from summer 2013. I have most of the collection, but this baby was my favorite for sure!
OPI My Vampire Is Buff
Zoya Dream & Payton
Dream and Payton are two holographic parts of Zoya's Zenith Collection. An added plus? They have an amazing formula!
Claire's Splatter Effect Collection
How could I even begin to pass up black & white glitter suspended in neon jelly bases?
Michael Marcus Once You Go Matte
I really liked that this was a full coverage black, matte lacquer that reached full opacity in two easy coats. Added bonus? The packaging.
butter LONDON Cotton Buds & Dare To Wear Flawless White
When am I never on the hunt for the perfect white nail polish? Never. I probably own about five or six different white cremes, but in 2013 I hit the ivory nail varnish lottery twice!
Illamasqua Nomad
This glossy jade creme was on my wishlist for a pretty significant amount of time. That is until Mr. Nail A College Drop Out went to Sephora all by himself and bought for me.
Formula X for Sephora Xplosives
My little lacquered heart went into immediate overdrive when I first heard about these guys back in June. Sadly, I (and everyone else) had to wait until September for them to hit stores. Oh but when they did. It. Got. Real. I picked up six of the fourteen shades.
Are any of your favorites on the list? If not let me know in the comments what polishes made your heart skip a beat or two, or three, or made you stop in your tracks altogether in 2013.
Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.

Top 10 of 2013: Product Porn
Saturday, December 28, 2013nail a college drop outNothing To Disclose Time for the first of three year end round ups and I'm starting with Product Porn! What's Product Porn? Well, with most of the posts I do I try to take interesting pictures the items used to create the corresponding nail look.
Let's get started with butter LONDON Pop Art Collection at #10
Cheeky Chops | Primrose Hill Picnic | Keks
See original post and nail art here.
What I really liked about this collection is that it was (and still is) the perfect combination of yellow, magenta, and cyan. Even better, it reminded me to buy ink for my printer.
In at #9, we have two pinks and a red from Sation.

Last Minute Xmas Manis!
Wednesday, December 25, 2013nail a college drop outPress Sample It's Christmas and if you're like me and still in your bed clothes with no idea as to how you're going to paint your nails this post may help you out, or at least provide some form of entertainment.
First up I have a simple way to wear China Glaze Mingle with Kringle & China Glaze Santa Red My List.
Mingle with Kringle is a warm gold foil while Santa Red My List is a cool dark pink foil.
Bot reached full opacity in two coats.
The second is my favorite of the bunch. If you like the "futuristic Christmas" look, than you'll probably love this one too!
For my thumb, ring, and pinky fingers I used three thin coats of China Glaze There's Snow One Like You.
On my middle and index fingers I started butter LONDON Cotton Buds, added some dome shaped studs I bought on eBay, and finished with a few more coats of butter LONDON Cotton Buds.
When I originally saw swatches of There's Snow One Like You and read reviews of the problematic application I just knew I would hate it, but I decided to make it work! As it turns out if you use three thin coats it applies perfectly.
Happy Christmas folks!

Nothing To Disclose So for whatever reason the internet has been down these past few days and I haven't been ale to share my nails with you. Let's give a round of applause to Verizon and there shoddy service (side eye). But now, I'm back to having access to the interwebz and some nail art just for you!
I had a few shades sitting on my dresser from Mr. Nail A College Drop Out that he specifically told I needed to use by the end of the year or he wouldn't buy me anymore. Do I really think he'd never buy another bottle if I didn't? No. But he bought some of the shades back in August, and treated me to Sephora a few times since then so why risk a good thing.
I started with a gradient of China Glaze Highlight of My Summer, Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Kiwi Bikini, and Sally Hansen Inst-Dri Blue By!
For the pineapple base color I mixed China Glaze Papaya & Punch Desert Sun; while the outline was done in OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys.
The pineapple leaves were done in China Glaze Running In Circles and Formula X Radioactive.
And finally, I added some gold flake that was left over from a previous Nail Art Society Kit.
With only a few days left of the year I'm going to put together some Top Ten posts; and with even fewer days until Christmas, the last Christmas collection I have on my to do list.
Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.

Press Sample Tonight I've got a mani using three of Pixi Nail Colours most recent shades that is perfect for all the upcoming Christmas and New Year's souirees. You ready?
I started with a white base color and decided to water marble with Pixi Precious Pewter (gray with silver-gold micro glitter), Charcoal Celebration (deep charcoal shimmer), and my favorite, Deepest Dahlia (intense deep burgundy plum).
I really love this purple toned oil slick effect, so much that I've been wearing it for the past five days. What can I say? When I create a mani I really like, I find it really hard for me to remove it.
Pixi Nail Colours are retail for $8 each at Target, Target.com, and PixiBeauty.com!
What do you think of this deep oil slick look?
Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.

Finally, it's the last day of the workweek! I felt like I've been waiting for what seemed like forever--although it has literally seven days--for the weekend to roll around. How do I celebrate? You know, aside from turning off my alarm tomorrow morning. Holographic nail art for the win.
I started with a base color of Dare to Wear Plumeria from the summer '13 Floral Fantasy Collection and let dry. After my base color dried I used a star shaped hole puncher and masking tape to make a stencil. (An idea from Sarah over at Chalkboard Nails btw. Link here.) I then painted on Color Club Blue Heaven on my index and middle fingers and removed the tape.
Update on my Twerk Team decals from Wednesday's mani:
On hump day I posted some pretty dope twerk team nail art that my mother found "vulgar and pornographic" she went on to say, "You brought that vulgar shit in my house!" Well it got even crazier and if you like Nail A College Drop Out on Facebook you read one of the more recent status updates. If not I'll copy and paste below.
Last night my mother comes in my room and says, "The Lord sent me in here to throw out those decals, but I didn't." Today, I decide I want to use my Beyonce decals and wouldn't you know both the Twerk Team and Beyonce sets are gone.
Obviously, she dug through my drawer of nail art supplies, opened the envelope I keep all of my nail sticker and water decals in, and made sure to throw out the only two sets from Dope Digits.
Needless to say I placed another order and had it shipped to Mr. Nail A College Drop Out's house.
Here's to hoping my weekend goes better than my week did.
Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.

Twerk Somethin' Girl
Wednesday, December 04, 2013nail a college drop outNothing To Disclose Before we get started let me preface this post by saying that my mom lectured me about the inappropriateness of today's manicure and then went on to ask if I was going to post them on the internet. My reply to her was a simple conversation ending, "yup." So if you're going to tell me about how degrading or how nsfw this mani is, don't.
Dope Digits recommends using light colors so I went with a simple beige to orange gradient using OPI My Vampire Is Buff, Illamasqua Purity (the irony eh?), and nubar Forbidden Fruit
OPI My Vampire Is Buff | Illamasqua Purity | nubar Forbidden Fruit
The decals were easy to use. The directions on the back say to dip them in water and then place them on your nails, but I found it a lot easier to place the decals on the nails, place a cotton ball soaked in water on top, and then slide the paper backing off.
Before I forget, the $100 Sephora/Ulta gift card giveaway is still open. Enter here.
Nothing To Disclose Well there you go folks, sexually suggestive nails just in time for hump day!

Press Sample Ah, so Monday is upon us yet again. Thanksgiving came and went, Black Friday is over, and the weekend has passed. What do I have in store for today? Another Mash-up mani! This time using all LCN shades.
I started with a base color of Home Sweet Home from the Homecoming Collection on my thumb, index, and middle finger. Next I free-handed some bones using Knitting Wool, also from the Home coming collection.
For my ring and pinky nails I started with a gradient using Marilyn and Liz from the Charade Collection. The dough color of the doughnuts is a mix of Rita (Charade Collection), Chocolate Fudge (Homecoming Collection), and Knitting Wool. And for the icing I used Berry Punch, also from the Homecoming Collection.
After everything was said and done I sealed my mash-up mani with LCN Ultra Fast Dry Coat.
By the way these photos were taken after five days of wear. Not too bad eh?
I've used LCN lacquers before and haven't run into an issue with the formula. What makes it even better for me? Most of the shades I own are cremes (aka my favorite lacquer finish).
The Homecoming and Charade Collections are available as trend boxes that contain four lacquers and retail for $24.90 each; while the Ultra Fast Dry Coat is $8.50 for a 8mL bottle on LCNboutique.com.
