Nothing To Disclose
Layering a lesser opaque color over a silver base is nothing new. So before I decide if I wanna drop my coin on something "new," I'm gonna do some testing of my own.
Sally Hansen Triple Shine Grape Jelly | Wet 'n Wild Fast Dry Everybody Loves Redmond
China Glaze Shell-O | Icing Grande Margarita | Icing Lime Martini
OPI I'm Never Amberrassed
All of the lacquers shown above are layered over a silver base on swatch sticks. (More info on swatch sticks HERE.)
Sally Hansen Triple Shine Grape Jelly was part of last summer's Palm Beach Jellies. Y'all remember that color-packed, translucent (oxymoron much?) lacquers were a big hit last year right? Well I picked up this limited edition shade--along with the rest of the aforementioned collection--on a end cap filled with a bunch of other miscellaneous polishes at Walmart.
Anyway, this was the sheerest of all the polishes in today's post. How sheer is it you ask? Above is three coats.
Wet 'n Wild Fast Dry Everybody Loves Redmond
Wet 'n Wild Fast Dry Everybody Loves Redmond is an red-orange jelly that looks great on it's own (shown HERE) but when two coats are layered over a silver base it becomes metallic. Fun right?
China Glaze Shell-O
China Glaze Shell-O may have been the biggest flop in the group. Even after three coats it was still patchy in some places.
Icing Grande Margarita
Icing Grande Margarita is one coat over silver. My camera just couldn't capture how amazing this looked. I'm just gonna throw this put there, someone needs to make metallic neons.
Icing Lime Martini
Icing Lime Martini is yet another one coater over silver! Why are neon metallics not a thing already?
OPI I'm Never Amberrassed
OPI I'm Never Amberrassed is two coats over silver. Depending on lighting, the color payoff varies.
What I learned:
- Due to variances in translucency, every jelly won't yeild the same results.
- Neon metallics need to be a thing.
- Though I don't have dead on dupes for the OPI Color Paints, I'm not completely sold on buying them. (Read: I'll likely by them when I catch them on clearence.)
Nothing To Disclose
What did you takeaway from this post? Will you be purchasing any/all the OPI Color Paints? Let's chat in the comments.
Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.

OMG NEON METALLICS! 😍 They really need to be a thing!! 😍
ReplyDeleteRight?!?! I'd buy them all!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post...and the neon metallics look awesome, they would be such a hit!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting...especially neon metallics! Yes can someone please make those!
ReplyDeleteI need neon metallics in my life!!! Such a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that purple is three coats - it doesn't even really look like there's any polish!! Love that lime though!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a clever idea to test and see if you can replicate the Color Paints! Interesting that the results are so varied!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was the biggest let down of the bunch. After I tried it I suddenly remembered why I didn't buy the Palm Beach Jellies last year.
ReplyDeleteI figured I had to have something similar in my 2,000+ bottle stash, so I had to try.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I see some neon metallics I'm buying them all. Hands down.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna predict someone will have them out by next summer.
ReplyDeleteBoo to sally hansen! I love the icing polishes over silver. I hold a special place in my polished heart for icing cuz they were the first 2 polishes I got back in the day.
ReplyDeleteThey definitely would sell out fast.
ReplyDeleteI used to love Icing! A few years back they were always .65fl oz bottles, BOGO half off or $4.50 each, and had an amazing color selection.
ReplyDeleteNow they're $5.50 each, boring colors, and .37 fl oz last time I checked.
Such a shame.
This is such a great idea!! I did just order the set of minis from Amazon, and it comes with 4 or 5 of the colors, and the silver base. I figured if I like them enough, I can order the other colors in full size.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen icing in store here for several years. Maybe I'm just overlooking them because wal marts polish section always looks like a tornado went through it :/
ReplyDeleteThey were sold exclusively at Icing Stores (the older sister store to Claire's), Pure Ice is the brand that's at Walmart.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a fan of minis. I'd rather buy the full size and not like it than buy a mini and buy the full size later.
ReplyDeleteThat green over the silver is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely excited to get these. My friend got them for Mother's Day and they are absolutely beautiful
ReplyDeleteI'm Never Amberrassed looks absolutely amazing over silver!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you now... we need neon metallics.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if someone created hem, they'd be a smash hit.
ReplyDeleteI like them, but not enough for me to buy them. At least not at this time.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, this post was the first time I've ever used it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't thought?!?!? I'm tryin to think of a way to wear it in a nail art mani.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried this yet but the result is so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteVery informative post. I have been reading everything I can find on the new OPI polishes trying to decide if I need them or not and this post helps influence my decision. I probably have enough polish that I dont need to add the opi's especially if I can get a similar look with what I already have. Now if someone made neon metallics Id be all over that!
ReplyDeleteI agree neon metallics would be awesome and that I probably won't be purchasing any of this until they go on sale or if I can grab them at IMATS this year like I did last year with the OPI Sheer Tints
ReplyDeleteOmg that green! I'm surprised that neon metallics aren't a thing! Someone will be making bank if they ever come out with it lol
ReplyDeleteI definitely recommend trying it out for yourself.
ReplyDeleteGlad I could help you out with your decision. Thank you so much for reading!
ReplyDeleteI buy all of my OPI on clearance. Why spend $9.50 when I don't have to right? Lol
ReplyDeleteSomeone would make a killing
ReplyDeleteExactly! lol
